Overview
Westlaw, by Thomson Reuters, is a leading legal research platform offering comprehensive access to case law, statutes, regulations, secondary sources, and legal analysis.
CI integrates with Westlaw Litigation Analytics to enrich profiles with references to Westlaw-powered analytics related to judicial decision-making. This integration allows CI users to quickly navigate from a profile to relevant litigation analytics in Westlaw for deeper research and insight.
CI provides outbound links that redirect users to Westlaw Litigation Analytics, where all underlying data and analysis reside. However, please note that CI does not ingest or display Westlaw document content, opinions, or articles.
How CI Obtains the Data
CI connects to Thomson Reuters through a licensed API integration to enable linking to Westlaw Litigation Analytics.
Details include:
- Data source: Thomson Reuters Westlaw Litigation Analytics
- Integration method: Direct API connection licensed through Thomson Reuters
- Data handling: CI does not store, modify, or enrich Westlaw content
- Linking: CI provides links to redirect users to relevant analytics views within Westlaw
Requirements to Access Content in CI
Westlaw Litigation Analytics links are available in CI only for clients who have purchased and maintain:
- A Thomson Reuters Enterprise license, and
- An active Thomson Reuters API license enabling the integration
Without the required Thomson Reuters Enterprise and API licensing, the Westlaw integration is not enabled and is not visible in CI.
CI does not manage Thomson Reuters licensing, API agreements, or subscriptions.
What Content is Included
The Westlaw integration enables access to external litigation analytics hosted by Thomson Reuters.
Included functionality consists of:
- Links to Westlaw Litigation Analytics
- Judicial analysis and related insights available within Westlaw
- Contextual navigation from CI profiles to Westlaw research tools
CI does not display:
- Full documents
- Judicial opinions
- Article titles or citations
- Westlaw-generated analytics content
All analytics, data visualizations, and supporting materials are accessed exclusively within Westlaw.
Where Data Appears in CI and How to Access
When enabled, Westlaw Litigation Analytics links appear within applicable profiles in CI. Selecting a link redirects the user to Westlaw, where analytics and supporting data can be viewed based on the user’s Thomson Reuters licensing and permissions.
To access Westlaw links on a profile page, select the “Documents” tab on the far right.
Users can select a professional’s name to be redirected to Westlaw for full access, subject to subscription status.
